1.2 Take the stress out of buying a dress

By: Wilber Gjokaj

Shopping is not fun for everyone. Sex and the City has a lot to answer for with regard to the propagation of shopping as leisure activity ? for many of us it can simply be a bit of a pain. Here''s a quick guide to taking some of the stress out of buying a dress.

Many for whom shop is a four letter word have several different reasons why they don''t like the process. It can be hard to know which sorts of clothes will suit your body shape, and difficult to integrate such knowledge - if you are aware of what works for you - with the prevailing fashion.

Successful shopping must start with you ? and an honest familiarity with your body shape. From slim to hourglass, different figures will be best enhanced by certain styles of dress.

This means that for most of us, not all styles will work so well. On the positive side, this also means that there is an option for practically everyone ? there is a world of different styles out there. Get an idea of the range of women''s dresses and other clothes available at the moment on sites like New Look which feature pictures of different products.

Once you have a firm grip on your figure type, break your search down into categories that match your lifestyle, like work and leisure, or round-the-house and going out.

Work and office wear can be a last thought when you are out on the high street; but if you work full-time, you are going to be spending a lot of time in these clothes. For confidence and utility, take a little time to find something that both looks smart and is comfortable enough to worn all day ? especially in the shoes department.

Equally, make sure that your shopping list (and budget) stretches to include some new leisure time outfits once in a while. It is by far the easier and less stressful way to maintain your wardrobe is by regular topping up, rather than condensing the process into one large, infrequent nightmare shop.

Finally, if possible, hit the shops at a quiet time ? ideally mid week. Either that, or shop online; and remove a significant aspect of the stress ? the shops ? from the equation.
