Modern Liverpool is perhaps most famous for spawning the Beatles, the group that revolutionised popular music in the 1960''s. As well as the famous popular music heritage of Liverpool, the visual arts are well represented in the city. The Walker Art Gallery near the Lime Street train station has a well rounded collection of art from different periods, and features the Big Art for Little Artists children''s gallery for children under the age of eight. There are also plenty of hands-on attractions geared up for kids in the World Museum Liverpool, including the Bug House (featuring giant insect animatronics), an aquarium, and the Living Laboratory ? which allows access to fish and sea life in special low level tanks. The World Cultures area of the museum is home to over 1,500 artefacts from across the globe, an exploration of Liverpools legacy as a world port, and hosts interactive computer activities alongside the large archaeological and ethnological collections. Modern Art is unsurprisingly on show in the Tate Liverpool, and has over the last few years exhibited the works of luminaries old and new from the modern art world ? have a look online to see the shows that are scheduled during the time that you will be visiting the city. The Tate Liverpool is located on Albert Dock, a Grade 1 listed area of the city that is well worth visiting in itself as part of your tour of the history of Liverpool.
