The film Up in the Air with George Clooney playing the lead role of corporate downsizing expert Ryan Bingham concentrates upon interpersonal relationships. Mr Bingham is employed to help ease the downsizing of long-term employees around the United States. He is serious about displaying his proficiency and looks forward to the 290 days he is going to be away. However, within this period of time his world alters dramatically. On the way, both he and his college graduate colleague Natalie played by A. Kendrick realize that they lack a great many important things in their lives and have to learn how to become better people. Clooney's Mr Bingham is a lonely business person whose private life is made up by random dates with attractive ladies at multiple airports where he is a frequent visitor. His wallet overloaded with credit cards from airlines that accumulate his mileage, hotel status perk cards which let him avoid encountering disgruntled holiday-makers and go straight to the front. Detached from his family members, Ryan is the brother who exisits somewhere but cannot give a shoulder to cry on. His job has become his new family. He contemplates if he should, or really wants to, attend his sister's wedding – the little girl whose life he should have been involved with after the death of their father. The story contains plenty of plot lines, details and sequences that should to be viewed fresh to get a grip on the film. What you may initially consider a witty comedy about a conceited guy who eventually becomes a pleasant person full of heart and emotion is actually a mix of both comedy and drama. G. Clooney gives a brilliant performance and makes his character very realistic. He seems to experience all the emotions of his character when playing both the supercilious workaholic obsessed with his job and career prospects and the vulnerable romantic able to display genuine feelings of love and sympathy to people around. The alterations the character undergoes throughout the movie are interesting to follow and make you think about the true values of human life.
