In the midst of the economic gloom, one British city continues to develop at a remarkable rate. Manchester, the self-styled capital of the north-west, has one of the most rapidly developing economies of any European city and is the most visited city in England by tourists outside of London.

If you fancy a city break, Manchester is also a great option because it''s just a short train ride from the Yorkshire Dales and the Pennines and some of Britain''s most spectacular landscapes.
