On the coast of Cyprus lies the lovely town of Paphos, one of the Mediterranean''s top locations, frequented by visitors from all over the world who come to enjoy the sun, sea and sand as well as to indulge in the rich, thriving culture and heritage which dates back all the way to the ancient times. The birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite, Paphos plays a key part in the stories of Greek mythology, and captivates so many for precisely that legacy. Paphos itself is comprised of two parts, with the coastal resort as well as the main town slightly further inland. The great thing about staying in Paphos itself is that you can take a flight straight to the town''s airport rather than having to make lengthy transfers to other parts of the island. The whole town of Paphos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it is this historical importance that brings so many visitors, with great attractions there for you to take a good look around during your stay. Elsewhere you can enjoy all the great local food and drink at fine restaurants, whilst if you head for the Byzantine fort of Paphos castle you''ll not only get to see an incredible structure but also be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the sea and the surrounding region. Just a half hours walk from the harbour are the Tombs of the Kings, a large and well-preserved necropolis that dates back to around the 4th Century BC. Whilst archaeological excavation is still underway, many of the unearthed tombs can be explored by visitors. There are several well preserved mosaics in Paphos that are among some of the finest specimens in Europe, dating back to Ancient times and depicting scenes from Greek mythology. There are also several early Christian catacombs which can be explored, the most famous of which is Saint Solomini Church. As you would expect from a Mediterranean resort, Paphos offers the kind of excellent cuisine you would expect from a coastal town and holiday destination. The beaches are wonderful too, especially Coral Bay which offers visitors all the facilities for watersports such as windsurfing, diving and sailing. Coral Bay in Paphos is one of the most attractive beached in the area, and has the full range of facilities available for various watersports, including windsurfing, diving and sailing.
