The summer might be coming to an end ? and indeed, some of us might ask if it ever arrived in parts of the UK ? but in other parts of Europe there is still plenty of sun to be enjoyed. With a few weeks left of the summer holidays ? and many Mediterranean destinations still enjoying good weather into October half-term ? this is not a bad time to book a quick last-minute break. But where to go that is accessible, friendly and no-hassle? For many, the resort-haven of the Canary Isles, off the south-eastern coast of Spain, is just the place to be. There is an overwhelming choice of places to go to, and you might be tempted into thinking that they all look the same, but with a bit of research and some key advice you could find just what you''re looking for. There are so many parts of the Canaries, though, you might get a bit spoilt for choice. Corralejo is located on the Fuerteventura north side, and is a great place to use as a starting point for further exploration of other Canary destinations such as Lanzarote and Lobos. If you''re feeling very fit you could even take part in the competitive swim from Lobos to Corralejo ? but others might sensibly opt to watch from the harbour wall. But you needn''t skip right through Corralejo on the way to other parts. At its heart, Corralejo is an old fishing village, and if you go deep into the town, there are plenty of delightful little white-washed houses and restaurants to be found. There is also the modernized stretch of land down to the marina, which provides a more international resort-style enclave. But let''s not forget the main reason for coming to the Canaries: the sea. And Corralejo, like its Canary sisters, has plenty of coastal locations worth getting to know. As well as potential trips to neighbouring islands by ferry, there is a stretch of beaches and sand dunes which begin betwixt the hotels and home-stays, and extend for miles around the coast. So why not explore by foot? Pace up towards Playa del Pozo if you fancy a quieter beach ? though be warned, it is a naturist hotspot ? or continue along Playa del Medano and Playa de Viejo for windsurfing and bodyboarding. Let the breeze and the weather wake you up and douse you in sunshine before returning to the grey UK.
