The perfect way to cool off in the summer is to go for a splash around in one of the city fountains. Of course, you are not strictly allowed to do so at some of the better known fountains, like the fountain in Trafalgar Square, but at Thames Barrier Park there is a fountain built for dancing in! You can get there by tube to the Pontoon Dock, and enjoy the unique piazza designed to shoots jets of water at you. It may seems like a rather macabre spot for a romantic picnic, but the Victorian cemeteries of London have long been a favourite spot for couples on dates. The fantastic and ornate monuments and tombs of Hampstead Cemetery are the best known, and you can have your lunch among famous writers such as Douglas Adams and Radclyffe Hall. Recreate that well known scene from White Christmas by taking your date ice skating to one of the outdoor rinks in London. Right in the heart of the city you will find the winter rink at the Tower of London, or for a less touristy spot, head to the rink that is set up each winter just outside the National History Museum. All of the parks of London are popular among romantic couples, providing as they do a tranquil getaway from bustling city streets. One of the finest is St. James Park where you will find free concerts throughout the summer as well as a park full of cute squirrels longing for you to feed them! For a spooktacular evening out with your date try a London ghost walk. There are several to choose from in different areas of the city ane you can now download guided ghost walks to your mobile phone so that you can walk the haunted streets of London together. The Barbican Centre in the heart of London plays host to free concerts and films throughout the year. You can also sit out by the fountains and enjoy a romantic lunch at their cafe, or take a walk through their exotic hothouse, full of fascinating plants species and fish swimming in the ponds of the garden conservatory. The Southbank of London is the heart of London city culture. Here you will find plenty of evening entertainment, and some if it free. Like the National Theatre pre-performance concerts that take place outside the theatre each evening, Monday to Saturday. Just next to the National Theatre and Waterloo tube station is the British Film Institute. Their bar is a popular spot, and their restaurant serves up delicious food on the banks of the Thames. Spend an evening dining outdoors on their terrace watching the river flow by, while DJs provide a funk and jazz soundtrack at weekends.
