If one is looking to convert MP4 to MP3 file, it is usually because, the person wishes to play an MP4 file on an MP3 player. There are 2 main types of MP4 files. The first one is a simpler version, which is called the Simple Profile. This uses a low resolution digital video content and is more frequently used for online distribution. The more complicated version is called the Advanced Video Coding. It is mostly used for HDTV content. There are several steps to convert MP4 to MP3 and some of them are listed as follows: 1)Open the iTunes application 2)Once in the iTunes section, select the songs you want to convert 3)Next, select your iTunes menu bar and select Preferences or you may press 'Command' and 'comma' keys. 4)In Preferences, select the 'Advanced' option 5)In Advanced section, click on the 'Importing' button, followed by selecting 'Import Using' and 'MP3 Encoder' 6)In the 'Settings' option, click on 'Custom'. Any option can be chosen, but it is recommended to choose custom to ensure the appropriate bit rate. 7)After selecting 'Custom', make sure the Stereo Bit Rate and Sample Rate are as per the user's desire. Ideally the Bit Rate should be of 44.1 Khz for excellent audio quality. In case one is not sure about which sampling rate to use, they should stick to the default setting 8) Check if the correct song has been selected and shut the Preference window 9) At the menu bar-select Advanced-Convert Selection to MP3 and then the conversion starts 10) Once the conversion has been done, there will be two songs of the same title. To convert MP4 to MP3, is advantageous because MP3 files can be played in any player whereas playing MP4 is restricted to iTunes programs. This may pose a problem for many users who do not have access to iTunes.
