Essential handsets for 2010

By: Porter Ivrin

This is an exciting time in the history of the mobile phone. With technology developing apace and competition fierce, new and improved models are constantly hitting the market. Here are some of the best phones that 2010 has to offer.

1. The Samsung Omnia II: Probably Samsung''s most competitive release to date, the Omnia II is equipped with all the features necessary to make it a superstar. Samsung fans will love the sensitive touch screen, excellent storage capacity, 5 megapixel camera and Windows Mobile 6.5.

2. HTC Touch Pro II: Developed with the needs of the serious business user in mind, the HTC Touch Pro II offers cutting edge communication technology. It boasts noise reduction speakers and a great conference call function, as well as a slide out keyboard, a tilting touch screen and built-in GPS.

3. Sony Ericsson Vivaz: This tiny but exquisite mobile phone is solid proof that the best things come in small packages. Set to be one of the stars of the 2010 mobile market, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz combines a stunning, curvaceous design with a 3.2 inch touch screen, a widescreen viewing mode and the capacity to be plugged directly into a TV.

4. T-Mobile Dash: It may not be new to the market, but the T-Mobile Dash should hold its own against the latest models in 2010. Innovative features include trackball navigation and one-handed usability, while the phone is also equipped with Wifi, GPS and 3G capabilities. The only disadvantage is its non-touch screen.

5. Sony Ericsson X10: Launching in the UK in April, Sony Ericsson''s Xperia X10 is one of the most hotly anticipated phones of the year. It features an Android operating system, a 5 megapixel camera, Wifi, Bluetooth and GPS.

6. Apple iPhone: The iPhone is an established market leader, but its constantly expanding range of downloadable apps means that the phone is still evolving. Still the most in-demand mobile model ever released, the iPhone should continue to lead the market in 2010.

Remember, if you''re looking for a new phone then it isn''t just the model you need to consider. Look at the contract, the network coverage and the customer service offered by the provider ? the perfect deal should compete on every front.
