Just over one third of all Brits, according to a recent poll carried out by the BBC, think that all bank accounts are essentially the same and that, therefore, there is no point changing between them. With interest rates so low across the board at the moment, many accounts are the same in terms of the money they can earn you, but that doesn''t mean there aren''t a whole range of things that are worthy of consideration. Customer service ? customer service is probably the most important consideration for any customer. Most banks pride themselves on their service, but if you''re giving an institution your cash, don''t put up with anything less than the best treatment. Call centres ? getting hold of real people when you ring a call centre can be difficult, getting hold of real people who can give you the right answer can be even more challenging. If you are considering an account and you hear that the bank in question has awful call centres, it might be a good idea not to open an account. Account extras ? every bank in the world wants you to give them your money so they often offer extra deals to make things a little more attractive. There are hundreds if not thousands of optional extras, and they''re always worth a look. Opening hours ? a large majority of people in the UK work nine to five, so having banks that are open nine to five is not ideal. Other accounts ? many banks offer special deals to existing customers, or if not they often offer a wide range of other accounts which it can be easier to open if you''ve already got an account.
