I have been employed by an estate agent for more than four years now. My duties include answering customer telephone calls and arranging appointments for people interested in buying properties. I have gained invaluable experience, enough to want to try to run my own estate agent business. I had the opportunity to start my own business and began to look around for a good location. The premises I was interested in soon turned from a dream into reality. I bought the offices and started to furnish them out. My partner and I were in this together and after a few months, everything was ready to have a “grand opening”. We had recruited two additional staff whose knowledge of this particular type of business was invaluable. Now the question was if we didn’t attract much passing trade, how could we advertise ourselves? I had heard of fax marketing and knew it was similar to telemarketing, so we invested in a fax machine. We knew that using this method of advertising would be a great idea, hopefully acquiring new clients. Our goal was to build up and strengthen customer relationships. We had a business meeting and decided that the best way forward was to design a marketing strategy and an advertising pamphlet. It was developed to be eye-catching, informative and not just another boring sales pitch. Next on the agenda was to make a spreadsheet of potential customers including their personal fax numbers. The team was extremely upbeat and buoyant, hoping everything would turn out well. There actually was no need to worry. After a few hiccups to start with, we realised this was the way forward albeit knowing there were more up-to-date ways to advertise. It was totally successful from the start, effective and most important of all, reasonably cheap for us. Reading up on the laws of fax marketing we had to take care not to send advertisements to any numbers registered with the Fax Preference Service. We adhered to this rule diligently. The business soon took off and in a short time consumers began to make contact. We felt that investing in an independent estate agent business had been the right thing to do. Advertising by fax marketing provides opportunities that other advertising methods do not. It isn’t complicated and is simple to carry out, having such benefits as being very economical, versatile and of course the human touch. New designs of fax machines are always available, so we had to make sure the type we bought could control brochures, advertisements and leaflets. The beauty of these fantastic machines is that you can also handwrite a letter to a potential client, adding a human touch to the message. So for any prospective business people out there, if you own a company or are just starting up, I would strongly recommend using fax marketing as a first step to making progress. It certainly works for us!
