Google and HTC have developed a unique new voice recognition system that for the first allows voice dictation in any text field. This means that Nexus One users can now dictate text messages, emails, Twitter, web searches and more. No other smartphone currently offers this exclusive technology. With VoIP technology now on the horizon, many thought that the new Nexus One, especially with an innovative company like Google in charge, would make better use of this technology. It turns out that the Nexus One is not the VoIP only handset that consumers were eager to see, and calls are connected in the same way as any other smartphone, rather than through data networks. The Android homescreen that some phone users will be used to looks a whole lot different on the Nexus One. Google and HTC have updated Android for this handset, creating Android 2.1, a slicker, more aesthetically appealing interface with a new gallery application layout and 3D graphics too. Google and HTC have revealed that their new Android 2.1 system, and even their unique and extensive voice recognition feature, may soon become available on future smartphone releases. So the exclusive features of the Nexus One might not be so exclusive after all. Unlike the iPhone, which you can only currently access through AT and T in the US, the Nexus One is available through a variety of carriers, including T-Mobile, Verizon and Vodafone. The smartphone is also available without a contract and completely unlocked too. Carrier choice is important as it gives the consumer more options and helps to increase competition between carriers. This competition is what helps to bring prices down, giving consumers a far better deal, and its good to see Google and HTC work towards fairer pricing for consumers. No smartphone is complete without a touch screen, and the Nexus One uses very receptive touch recognition software. While the Nexus One hardware allows for multitouch, the software, unfortunately, does not. So it looks like Apple are still winning the multitouch game. One of the best new features of the Nexus One is that it comes with the Google Voice app built in. This means cheaper international calls, and allows you to access your voice mail from your PC or laptop, and even lets you transcribe your voice mails to text.
