The city of Hurghada on the west coast of the Red Sea is one of the most rapidly growing tourist destinations in the world. The coast is perfect for wind and kite surfing and the offshore reefs around the city are considered to be some of the best in the world. If you fancy scuba diving or snorkelling you will have hundreds of opportunities in Hurghada, but you''d rather keep your feet dry, a trip in one of the many glass-bottomed boats is a good idea. Not so far up the coast from Hurghada is a slightly more exclusive resort known as El Gouna. El Gouna is a hotel town, it is basically one large hotel complex with a number of high class villas for private hire as well. El Gouna is a lot quieter and cleaner than Hurghada, but some would argue that it is less fun and there is a lot less nightlife. Hurghada, like so many destinations around the Red Sea, is rapidly growing and the Egyptian authorities have taken steps to make sure that the developments are of the highest standards. Hurghada is almost purely a tourist resort, but it is one of the best tourist resorts that you''re ever likely to find.
