Scandinavia seems to be the place to be if you want good health and a clean conscience when it comes to travelling this year. Not only are countries like Norway, Sweden and Denmark some of the most unpolluted in Europe, they also display a very high standard of living and a commitment to fresh air, fresh food and environmental respect. Such attributes make them rather attractive when it comes to visitors from the rest of Europe. Whilst the prices might be a little higher, there''s a lot to be experienced in these northern European enclaves. Oslo, capital of Norway and recently ranked the world''s second most desirable and green city to live in by Reader''s digest, is one such place worth a visit. Whilst most of us think of skiing and not much else in Norway, there is far more to the country than winter sports. Oslo is dazzling, home to the Norwegian government and monarchy. Alongside these famous inhabitants, it boasts classical architecture, cool shops and a thriving arts and music scene. It even combines the outdoor and metropolitan. This is a city located on the Oslo Fjord, so the town creeps down towards the water, with a picturesque harbour dotted with restaurants and bars. You can enjoy sailing and a trip up the Fjord''s in the (surprisingly hot) Norwegian summer sun. If you do fancy a little entertainment, Norway won''t disappoint. Bergen is perhaps the country''s most famous musical town, home to Kings of Convenience and Royksopp- but Oslo can certainly compete. Not only does it have a host of cinemas, it also boasts various music and arts festivals, from the best of Nordic contemporary music at Norwegian Wood in June, to the well-reputed OsloJazz in August. With fresh air and beautiful food and buildings, there is something for everyone ? and with all this cleanliness and environmental friendliness, it might even make you feel healthier too. The clean waters of the country catch fresh fish, the fields produce delicious sweet strawberries and Norwegian baking is second to none. Feast on Oslo!
