Wrapping up warm has never looked so good! Knitwear has come on in leaps and bounds over the past few winter seasons and this year knitwear is at its most modern. New fabrics and new knitwear styles keep this traditional look bang up to date. When looking for knitwear for this season, keep it complicated. Layered tailoring and elegant cuts are the key, to keep your knitwear looking interesting. As for fabrics, soft is where its at, and look out for mohair which is the must have fabric for this winter. Knitwear dresses were a big hit on the catwalks, and the key trend for this winter is chunky. Chunky knit dresses that look like long relaxed jumpers and sweaters, teamed with opaque tights or leggings, create a relaxed and cosy look that can be accessorised to the hilt. The variety of colours, prints and finishes on this years knitwear is astounding. Every colour imaginable is covered, with the snowflake print creating a big stir. This winter, keep it bold with complex patterns and bold geometric designs. Knitted blouses are key this season, and can be surprisingly flattering when you choose the right fabric and cut. Look out for detailing which helps to keep this look interesting. Lace detailing was big on the catwalks, as were crystals. Every woman needs a winter sweater, and this season the chunky knit sweater is in. Keep it interesting with sophisticated cuts, bold weaves and textures and statement prints and colours. Voluminous collars add a fashion forward edge and the ski sweater print is big too. No winter wardrobe is complete without that trusted winter cardigan. This year it is all about length - the longer the better. The trend is for mid-thigh to mid-calf length cardigans, ideally teamed with a matching dress for a uniform, yet dramatic look. Detailing is everywhere when it comes to knitwear for autumn and winter 2009. It keeps the knitwear look fresh, and adds that essential feminine touch. Detailing on the catwalk came from extravagant tailoring and layering, as well as touches of fur, silk, lace and leather.
