Situated on the south-western Mediterranean coast of Turkey and at the intersection between two ranges of mountains it has a unique landscape. It was close to destroyed by Alexander the Great, but was an important location for the Ottoman Empire and the city boasts a fifteenth century castle which has been renovated extensively in the last thirty years and is definitely worth a visit. Another slightly different activity that is worth considering are the Jeep safaris. Marmaris is at the centre of two mountain ranges, and for just a few euros you can take a trip up into the mountains, exploring routes that feel like no one has ever walked there before and finding secluded beaches and coves along the coast. If you don''t fancy a safari but want to explore yourself, there''s always the opportunity to rent a car and go for an adventure. A great tip for tourists considering going to Marmaris is that many of the restaurants and shops take currency of any denomination, so, with a little bargaining and bartering you can net yourself a three course meal for as little as ?5! Marmaris'' hotels offer excellent value for money, many are relatively new and built to the highest specification, and, of course, if you get the right hotel you may well find the opportunity to enjoy a world famous Turkish bath on the premises. Marmaris is a fantastic place to visit, you are guaranteed a great holiday.
