If you are looking for a fun day out, you could do worse than visiting the Aquarock Water Park, which is just south of Ciutadella and near to the beach at Cala en Bosc. Attractions include a go-kart track, trampolines, a kamikaze, and a wave machine. With sand dunes and a secluded pinewood behind it, the beach at Cala Pregonda is the perfect place to go for a picnic by the sea. Also nearby is the beach at Binimel La, which does not have any shaded areas but it is a wonderful sandy beach nonetheless. Once the home of the illustrious Salort y Martorell family, the Binisues manor house is now a museum dedicated to showing the traditional Menorcan way of life. All the original furniture and paintings are still on show, and there is also a beautiful collection of mounted butterflies. There is no access to the cliffs themselves, which are home to numerous Peregrines, Kites, and Sea Eagles, but the windy headland can be explored on foot. The Carme Church is a huge 18th century Baroque church and Carmelite convent that was built over the remains of an ancient Roman settlement. The cloister was converted into a prison and court of justice in 1835, and sow serves as a fresh food market. Guarding the entrance to Mao Harbour, the Fortress at La Mola has been standing since 1848, after being built to replace the destroyed Sant Felip Fort. During the Spanish Civil War, it served as a high security prison, but it is no longer used by the military and is now a popular tourist attraction. If you fancy sampling some of the local liquor, you should make a bee line for the Xoriguer Gin Distillery, where you can sample high quality gin as well as other spirits and liqueurs including the sweet Hierbas, which is made from camomile, and Calent, which is made with aniseed, saffron and cinnamon.
