Menswear trends for 2010

It isn''t often that menswear designers take wearibility as their theme ? but at the 2010 shows, the catwalk was dominated by stylish, contemporary pieces which would translate easily to streetwear. There were no extravagances, no eccentric nuances. Silhouettes were classic, colours were muted and designs were contemporary; never has the catwalk been more accessible.

Nowhere did designers give way more to the contemporary and wearable than when it came to colour. Grey was a popular shade, with tones ranging from dove to muted silver. Prada featured a range of men''s clothes in a myriad of subtle colours, showing against a sombre background to emphasise the connections with the current global climate.

While monochrome shades were evident in most collections, some designers chose to jazz up their clothes with splashes of colour. Versace kicked off with white and pale creams, while Cavalli went even further, daubing clothes with spots of yellow, green and even pink.

When it came to cut, silhouettes tended to be neat and contemporary. Think tailored trousers, nipped-in waists and defined shoulders. V-shaped trousers were also favoured by many designers, with ankle tapering seen at both Prada and Versace.

Extravagances were kept to a minimum in the 2010 catwalk shows, but some designers showed a touch of flare in their tops ? think wet-look fabric, techno mesh and bold, oversized patterns. There was also plenty of flesh on show, with Cavalli and Dolce
