As many as 40 million people in the UK own a mobile phone. But, regrettably, many of these people don't have the best deal that they can get. Many of us don't ask the right questions when we work with phone companies. With so many things that can be included in a deal, comparing prices and pay plan packages is hard. It is easy to be swayed by advertising that offers all kinds of so called special offers. When buying a phone, you should be rigorous about finding out costs. As well as call and text messaging, you'll have to cover expense of voicemail retrieval. You'll also need to ask what happens if you don't use your phone, say, when on holiday. What's more, many are duped by not remembering the cost of inter-network calling. When companies offer, say, a rate of 2p for an off-peak charge to mobiles of the same network, or to a landline, it is important to remember that many of that your friends, family or colleagues will not be on the same network as you. Lots of your most frequently made calls will be to other networks, which will be more expensive. Above all, buyers don't understand how monthly deals, or yearly packages differ from pre-paid mobiles. In a yearly packages or pre-paid mobiles you pay only for calls, but with a monthly deal you pay a fixed line rental charge and then have inclusive call minutes. Though the call cost on a pre-paid phone is usually higher than on monthly deals, you'll need to compare costs with your personal needs. The other benefit of using monthly deals is that they usually include free call and text minutes during the weekends and evenings. This is helpful for those who use their phones often, which includes the majority of mobile users. By restricting calls to certain hours of the day, those on stringent budgets can save a lot of money. Currently, many major mobile networks have good monthly deals. With Vodafone, for instance, you can get a Nokia 5800 with the fixed rate for calls per month only ?15. Included are 100 call minutes and 500 texts. The Nokia 5800 also has powerful speakers and a high definition screen, so you can enjoy great quality entertainment. Another of Vodafone's monthly packages is the Sony Ericsson C510 handset, with the fixed charge of ?15 per month. But you get as many as 300 calls per month with unlimited texts. The Sony Ericsson also has the benefit of a Cyber-shot camera. Those who don't use their phones that often will benefit from a pre-pay plan, since they may not spend enough to justify paying a fixed line rental charge. Be sure to add up how many calls you make a week in order to decide which plan suits you.
