Our favourite Zurich attractions

Of the many churches of note in Zurich, the Grossmunster church is especially worthy of your attention thanks to the works created around the church by some of the finest craftsmen and artists in Europe, if not the world. A Romanesque church, it features an Augusto Giacometti designed choir window, as well as glorious Otto Munch designed bronze doors.

Fans of the work of renowned designer Augusto Giacometti must make a stop at the Fraumunster church. This is an historic church, one of the oldest in the city, and was constructed in 853AD. The building as a whole is breathtaking, but of particular note is the fabulous stained glass work of Giacometti.

A church that dates back even further than the Fraumunster church, is St. Peters Church. Its Baroque features mix with Romanesque and Gothic designs to create a truly unique architectural structure, featuring works by Franz Schmuster and Salomon Burkli.

The Swiss National Museum. Also known as the Landesmuseum, this museum is home to the best collection of Swiss artefacts that can be found anywhere in the world. The building itself, which is next to the main train station in Zurich, looks like a fairytale castle and took over a hundred years to build.

Schanzengraben. During the period between the 13th century until the late 17th century, Zurich was a city state with extensive fortifications known as Schanzengraben. Today, the ruins of these fortifications can be seen throughout the old city, and are a popular draw for tourists.

Once you have explores the Swiss National Museum, explore the works of the Reitberg Museum, which houses collections of art and artefacts from outwith Europe. It is much loved by tourists and locals alike and is one of the finest museums of its kind in all of Europe.

Bahnhofstrasse. This street, much like Fifth Avenue in New York, is one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world, full of showcase stores for some of the most prestigious brands in the world, such as Dior, Tiffany, Bvgari, and Zegna. Not a great place to pick up a bargain, but great for an afternoon of fantasy window shopping.
