If you want to make some feel special on their birthday, say it with flowers. Whether you pick the flowers yourself or not, you can help to make their birthday bouquet more special by decorating it yourself, or by adding a personalised card or note with some loving thoughts included. You may not know that just as every month of the year has its own gemstone and star sign, it also has its own flower. Pick the flowers that represent the month of the birthday boy or girl and their birthday bouquet will be that bit more meaningful. The year begins with the Carnation, which is one of the oldest cultivated flowers in the world. It has a long tradition and is now representative of happiness and fondness. February follows with its flower the Violet, whose pretty flowers denote modesty and love. March has the sunny yellow Daffodil, the emblem of spring and symbol of joy and birth. Daisies meanwhile have the month of April and their sunny yellow centres reflect the sunny weather and happiness of the blossoming spring. May is a time for Lilies and the Lily of the Valley is among the most popular for its beautiful white petals representing humility and purity and its delicate scent which is famously used in perfumes. June marks the beginning of summer and brings with it the rose. As the summer temperatures rise, July becomes the month of the Larkspur, which is often confused with the Delphinium. Larkspur comes in a range of colours from pink to purple, blue to white, while the flower of August is the Gladiolus. The autumn month of September is represented by the Aster, which is the symbol of good luck, and in China is symbolic of fidelity. October has the flower Calendula, or the Marigold as it is more commonly known, with its vivid golden petals. For winter birthdays you have the Chrysanthemum for November and the Narcissus for December. Chrysanthemum in Ancient Greece represented wisdom and nowadays symbolises long life and optimism. The Narcissus is a symbol of youth, youthful beauty and love.
