Plastic Model Kits

Plastic models are also called scale models and are available as kits that persons purchase and assemble. They are made in different objects such as cars, ships, aircrafts and also vehicles used in warfare. However, the majority of models resemble vehicles used in the military. Plastic models are made from polystyrene and the parts are held together by gluing.

HOW TO BUILD A MODEL SAILBOAT
Building a model sailboat is a wonderful pastime and the finished product can make you feel a sense of pride in what you have accomplished. Some places have display shows where makers of models can highlight their creations. Building a model sailboat is not as complicated as it seems. The materials required are sold in stores, if they are not already available in your home.
Materials: Tools:
Canvas Handsaw
Epoxy glue Drill
String Scissors
Balsa wood (2 x 4 x 8 inches long) Staple gun
Sandpaper Box cutter
Dowel Drill

Steps:
1. The first thing to do is make the hull which is the frame of the boat. Use the box cutter to make incisions in the wood. Trim just sufficient wood so that a pointed end is made.
2. Trim a little off the sides. This will serve as the bottom of the boat. You may think about making your hull look more creative by sanding it with the sandpaper.
3. Next you need to create the support mast. The mast is the pole that supports the sails. You can create your support mast by using a single vertical wood beam. Cut the wood beam to into the shape you desire and the height.
4. Use your drill to drill a hole minimum 2 and 1/2 inches deep in the hull.
5. Use the handsaw to cut the dowel to about 6 inches. Ensure that it is cut straight. Sand it to remove splinters.
6. Pour some glue in the hole and insert the support mast. Wipe away any excess glue when you insert the mast. Allow to dry for a few hours.
7. Next you need to create the sail. Cut the canvas into any size you desire or an ideal size like 4 x 4 inches. Make sure you cut it in the shape of an equilateral triangle.
8. Apply glue on the side of the sail and attach it to the support mast. You should fold it on the mast.
9. Finally, create the rig. Cut a piece of string with the scissors.
10. Use the staple gun and attach the string to the side of the sail that is attached to the dowel.
11. Secure the next end of the string onto the hull of the boat.

Once you finish a sailboat successfully, you are able to make different types by using the principles used to make the first one. Every model you create is an experiment and by making more and more, you boat making talents will get better.
