How to use a Post Hole Digger
Step 1
Hammer rebar into the ground to make pathways for water.
Step 2
Get a hose and soak the ground to soften it prior to using the post hole digger. Wait until the water has had an opportunity to soak in.
Step 3
Lift up the post hole digger and release it, jaws open, into the ground. The jaws will cut into the ground and soften it even more for removal.
Step 4
Continue to use the weight of the post hole digger for the hard work, rotating around the edge of the hole.
Step 5
Drop the digger down with force once you've loosened up a circle of soil. Open the handles to get a bite of earth in the jaws and raise it.
Step 6
Continue with Steps 4 and 5 until you've removed all the loose soil, making a hole 1 foot in diameter.
Step 7
Repeat Steps 1 through 5 to deepen the hole. You'll need a 1-foot-deep hole for posts up to 4 feet tall, and a 2-foot-deep hole for posts from 4 to 8 feet tall.
How to select basic gardening tools
1.Step 1
Choose a spading fork as your primary tool . Prior to you plant anything, you will need to open and improve the soil. A spading fork appears like a pitchfork but has a shorter handle and wider tines. It is employed to dig down into hard soil and break up the ground.
2.Step 2
Next, select a hoe. A hoe is useful for weeding and cultivating the top of the soil to enable penetration of nutrients and water.
3.Step 3
Choose a watering pan. Long nozzles enable the water to come out at a very gentle flow rate and are useful for reaching across long distances . Choose a watering pan that has a detachable spray head - this kind of watering pan is perfect for watering young seedlings.
4.Step 4
Choose a circular-ended shovel for larger digging projects, such as planting shrubs and trees.
5.Step 5
Get a good bow rake, which has short tines on one side attached to a iron frame or 'bow.' Its employed for leveling the soil after it has been turned and before planting.
