This amazing natural light display varies in colour from shades of red and orange to purples, blues and greens and seeing it is a once in a lifetime experience that will set you apart from the vast majority of even the most well-travelled population. Skiing is also possible in the winter, however, the whole area is undulating rather than mountainous so don't expect any challenging black runs or any off-piste worth exploring. However, you can swap your skis for a toboggan, a husky cart or ski-dooing for just as much fun. When the sun finally returns the occasion turns into a massive celebration that is amongst the best in the whole of Scandinavia. Lapland is also one of the most traditional places to celebrate Mid-Summer festival in June. As soon as the snow melts and summer returns to Lapland, hiking, biking and canoeing are back on the agenda. The landscape is a fairy tale like blend of brooks, lakes, streams and gently undulating hills, which make it a breathtaking backdrop for getting active. The Sami people also call this region their home. They are the largest indigenous peoples in Europe and traditionally were semi-nomadic reindeer herders.
