Sitges is a town in Catalonia, about 35 km from Barcelona, which benefits from an excellent coastal location. Sitges has a reputation as being something of a centre of arts and culture, and hosts one of the premier European film festivals, the Sitges Film Festival, as well as an annual Carnival. Sitges is also famous for an established gay scene, and is one of the most popular holiday destinations for gay couples in Europe, as well as attracting a cross section of all different types of holidaymakers. On the way to the nudist beaches the Cementeri San Sebastia in Placa del Doctor Baromeu Robert is an old cemetery which is full of idiosyncratic statues and tombstones that is well worth exploring. To escape the midday heat, and soak up some culture, there are three museums in the centre of Sitges. The Museu Romantic is a well preserved 18th century house which was a grand residence of a local notable, and now offers the chance to see how the wealthy elite of Sitges used to live. The other two museums are behind the church of San Bartolome y Santa Tecla.
