The play entitled the innocents opened at the local theater starring some local talents. And when you look at the stage you will see a picture and this the subject of many strange stories. The one who owns this picture, for many years now, chooses to not be known. For reasons even this owner does not know, she suddenly stopped and parked her car and purchased this photo after it caught her eye. She thought that it was impossible for her to afford it but she could not leave until the store clerk gave it to her. She thought about her kids who were heading back to school, and needed books, clothes and school supplies. There is just no way I can afford to buy this so I am sorry I cannot take it, she thought to herself first before talking to the clerk. But before the attendant could move and return the portrait back in place, the lady, in a very loud voice, said that she was dying to have that portrait and she will get it no matter what happens. A problem presented itself for her as she tried to figure how she would explain to her husband her compulsion at buying the photo, and after paying for it she hurried out of the antique store, still not being able to explain to herself how she got it even as she could not even afford it and neither had a need for it. This oil painting was of a Russian wolfhound known as a Borzoi, done between the late 1800's or perhaps the early 1900's. The Borzoi in the picture was painted in an almost straight on pose, capturing only the head and shoulders of the wolfhound and this something that someone whose eyes are familiar with the Borzoi should be able to point out, apart from the fact that it was a very alluring piece of art. There is not even proper proportion between the chest and shoulders. Even as the woman's eyes were extremely familiar with such a breed and knew exactly how it must look like, she still got it despite thinking that she should not. When her husband arrived home that evening to find the picture hanging on the wall there was not the blow up of overspending the needed money for a portrait of a dog, instead there was the same strange attraction that she had felt. There never was an instance that two photographs of this portrait ever came out the same and there have been so many photo amateurs and experts that took shots of it. It was both creepy and amazing how strange lights would linger on the painting's surface, sometimes making it look like it was in color and then black and white sometimes, then there would also be moments when the dog would appear to be flat then three dimensional all of a sudden but the most bizarre instance would perhaps be a spectral face showing on its right side. I think it is just the light reflections or more so, our hyperactive imaginations, the husband shared as he told his wife that he does not think that there is something strange about the picture that she bought. It was weird how all of a sudden, a huge ceramic plate fell with a clang on the floor but it was left intact without a crack at all. Hearing about the tales of this portrait, the playhouse director and producer sought the couple to loan the painting and use it as part of his play, the Innocents, which was about supernatural forces, and indeed, they agreed to it. We never truly found out who or what it is that moved into our home the day we got the portrait and perhaps you can help us with this as we lend this to you for your production, the Innocents, the couple told the producer. They're hoping this is the truth, at the very least.
