Based in Taiwan, HTC have been responsible for bringing us some of the most innovative smartphones in recent years. This year sees them launch their newest model the HTC Desire, which uses the updated Android 2.1 user interface. The slimline design of the HTC Desire makes it one of the thinnest smartphones on the market. Its finish is incredibly smooth, and has been ergonomically designed for ultimate user comfort. It also features a large OLED touch-sensitive display that measures just short of 4 inches. The HTC Desire uses the Android 2.1 user interface as its base, but has improved this further with the new HTC-designed Sense interface. Sleeker in design and more intuitive than the basic Android interface, Sense also allows touchscreen scrolling for easier manoeuvring. A smartphone packed with features is no use unless you can access those features quickly. The HTC Desire uses a 1 GHz processor to ensure ease of use and speedy connectivity. The processor is called Qualcomm Snapdragon and it was specially designed by HTC themselves. It comes with a 5 megapixel camera, with a single LED flash, that can capture still images and video clips. While it is not the most powerful camera on the smartphone block, it is perfectly usable and the image quality is on the whole very good. Thanks to a very responsive and forgiving virtual keyboard, writing text messages and emails on the Desire could not be any easier. The phone is very well set up for social networking applications, and comes with Facebook and Twitter built in. One of the highlights of the phone is its large touchscreen display. With a screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, images are sharp and bright. The oversized screen means that the HTC Desire is a great choice for those who regularly use their phones for watching movies and video clips, and for gaming too. Thanks to the intuitive media player app that comes with the Sense user interface, the 32 gigabyte micro SD storage capacity, and the built in 3.5mm headphone jack, the Desire is great for listening to music on, and could quite easily serve as a replacement for a standalone personal stereo or MP3 player.
