The many sides to Mallorca

By: Jarrett Altrogge

If you are looking around for somewhere to go for your summer holiday, then Mallorca may be the place for you. It certainly caters to more or less everyone''s needs, popular as it is with celebrities, couples eager for a romantic getaway, and families on their big summer vacations abroad.

The island is the largest in the Balearics, and has taken on greater and greater status over the years. Nowadays, even Hollywood stars have made it their home.

Families head to the beaches at Cala Bona, Puerto Pollensa and Alcudia for their fun in the sun. Meanwhile the resorts of Camp De Mar and Cala d''Or are favourite retreats for those who head abroad for something of a quieter rest. The island offers resorts that can deliver what you are looking for from your holiday. Even for those who enjoy a good few nights drinking and dancing on the town, Magaluf and Palma Nova will suit you.

Set in the blue Mediterranean Sea, Mallorca has plenty of beautiful sandy beaches. Magaluf and Palma Nova lie on the west coast, lively places popular with the young and the young at heart. Meanwhile the calmer waters to the north are popular with families, whilst those who want to participate in watersports gravitate towards Sa Coma in the east. Whoever you are and whatever you want from your holiday, you are sure to find the right spot for you.

Mallorca lives and breathes with its visitors in mind. So when it comes to eating out, the choice is enormous: spicy meatballs and gorgeous olives at a tapas bar, or egg and chips at the greasy spoon, you will find what your palate desires.

Magaluf is the well-known destination of choice for anyone seeking out Mallorca''s legendary nightlife. With its endless happy hours, bright lights, and music streaming out from every joint, it is popular with the young ? and of course the young at heart. Elsewhere, Palma''s trendy waterfront offers a wide range of bars, as well as the island''s only casino.

During the daytime, however, Palma also offers plenty of opportunities for you if you love nothing better than to go shopping and flash the cash. Chic boutiques, large department shops, and small independent specialist shops all offer visitors something to take home for friends and family or even souvenirs to remind you of your visit.

There is so much choice in what to see and do, and of course where to go, that you might want to hire a car to get around. If you want to make the most of a visit to the island, it will certainly be worth it.
