How often do you browse the internet on your mobile phone? Once a day? Once and hour? Or every five minutes? Now that we have smart phones, more and more of us are using them as our main means of internet usage outside of work. It''s all too tempting to pop onto Facebook, check the news on the BBC''s website or maybe even do some shopping on Amazon whilst sitting on the bus stuck in London traffic. Smart phones and mobile internet bring a whole new meaning to multi-tasking. It seems however, that we are becoming addicted to our smartphones. It''s not just the shiny, stylish designs, the high-quality cameras, the easy-to-use mp3 players and the ability to add myriad ''apps''. One of the biggest selling points is an internet browser capability that is fast and efficient. According to the GSM Association, in December 2009 16 million people accessed the internet from their mobile phones in the UK. And this was only from the top three networks and there are in fact five network providers in the UK. Our favourite site by far is Facebook. The social network giant accounts for almost 50% of online usage from mobile phones in Britain. In December alone we spent 2.2billion minutes on Facebook on our mobiles. Although way behind in terms of browsing time, Google sites came in second with 395 minutes in December. We seem to prefer going on search, online email and technological sites rather than news and shopping sites. Microsoft, Orange, AOL, Apple, Vodafone and Yahoo made up the top 10. The BBC sites were down at number seven with 83 million minutes and dating site Flirtomatic came in at 54 million minutes. Overall in December we spent more than 60 million hours or 4.8 billion minutes online on our mobiles. If you want a smartphone specifically for its internet browsing capabilities then get your mitts on the Nokia N900. It has super fast internet, up to 7.2Mbps as well as a super fast processor and 32GB of space to store files, pictures and music and you can have multiple websites open as you can easily tab between them all. What with the QWERTY keyboard and PC synchronisation you have the perfect smartphone. Another clever smartphone is the BlackBerry Bold 9700 which more than lives up to BlackBerry''s reputation for fast, efficient and easy to use email and internet. It has fast 3G internet, QWERTY keyboard, plenty of space for documents as well as the ability to insert a microSD card if you need even more space. It even comes fully loaded with Facebook and Twitter.
