Almost anyone you speak to will give you a number of reasons why you should or should not take out insurance on your pets. But while it might look like your money would be better spent elsewhere, taking another look at this issue could reveal good reasons why pet insurance isn''t such a bad idea. No one wouldn''t want their pet to live to a happy old age, and the progresses in the field of veterinary science are making this an ever firmer prospect. Nevertheless, the processes by which vets make this happen can prove to be somewhat expensive, and maybe outside the area of what''s affordable. If you take out the right kind of cover, however, a practically negligible payment each month could be the difference between your pet''s life and death at a later stage. Just make sure that you''re covered for extensive medical bills, and you won''t have to worry about being able to afford the fee if the situation arises. Whether your pet is a well behaved animal or a troublesome one could also be something of a sticking point. If an incident occurs and your animal is in some way to blame, you might find that the cost of a legal battle will be just too great a burden to shoulder. But if you make certain that your insurance policy covers you for accident liability, your cares will be substantially reduced. It is perhaps unlikely that an insurance broker will pay for all your legal fees, but they could contribute significantly to the expense that your pet''s destructive behaviour might incur. Depending on how much you''re willing to put towards them, insurance policies can extend to issues other than those mentioned. For instance, certain forms of cover could help contribute towards a reward for the recovery of your pet if he or she is stolen or goes missing. Equally, if you''re travelling on holiday or have to leave home for work related reasons, your insurers could even contribute towards the boarding costs for your pet, or even help with the charges incurred by taking him or her along with you. In the same vein, if you are unfortunately hospitalised for a period, your policy could ensure that your pet is well looked after until you are home. Something worth remembering is that not all pet insurance companies will provide the right cover for you, despite what they advertise. Since the introduction of new legislation by the Financial Services Authority in 2005, it has been illegal for vets to suggest certain insurers, meaning that to be sure you are receiving an appropriate deal for you, you''ll have to do your research extra carefully when purchasing insurance.
