Things to do on your Tenerife holidays

By: Haywood Estok

Aqualand Costa Adeje, in the Costa Adeje area of Playa de la Americas, is a water park and dolphinarium that features a wide variety water rides, from white knuckle slides such as the Kamikaze and the Foam to more relaxing river slides, and daily dolphin displays. It is open from 10AM to 6PM every day.

The Jardines de Atlantico, a banana farm situated just outside of Los Cristianos, are open every day from 10AM. Here you will find banana plantations, a scale model of Tenerife that explains how their water system works, and a shop that sells banana related products. A free bus service to the farm is available from Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas.

The Camel Park, situated between Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos, is open from 10AM to 5PM every day, and offers hour long camel rides round the fields around the farm. While riding a camel can be great fun, it is not for the faint hearted, and if you suffer from motion sickness, it is best avoided.

The Karting Club de Tenerife is an international standard go kart track situated about seven kilometres from Los Cristianos. Free buses from Playa de las Americas are available, and you can get a free mini bus from most hotels on request. They have five different types of kart available to suit drivers of different ages and ability levels, and if you do not fancy racing, there is a bar, a caf?, and large viewing terraces.

Nature fans will love Las Aguilas Jungle Park, a massive wildlife park with over seventy five thousand square feet of tropical gardens. There are several daily displays including penguin feeding time, parrot shows, and an eagle demonstration. If you want to make the most of it, you should set aside at least one whole day to explore the park.

With over 1.3m visitors every year, Loro Parque is by far the most popular tourist attraction in Tenerife, and it is easy to see why. They have the biggest dolphin aquarium in Europe, and the largest parrot collection in the whole world, as well as lions, tigers, sharks, orca whales, and gorillas.

If you are on holiday with the kids, you might want to take them along to Monkey Park Tenerife, a small petting zoo with animals such as marmosets, iguanas, lemurs, and squirrel monkeys. It is open daily from 9.30am to 5.30pm.

If you fancy a little off road racing, you might want to head along to the Quad Park, which is an off road quad trail set in 200,000 square metres of tropical countryside. They provide helmets and goggles, and the quads are fully automatic and very easy to drive. A typical ride costs 28 Euros, and lasts for about thirty five minutes.
