From the starting track to the last dying note, Africa comes alive in theatre in Disney's The Lion King. This performance has lots of melodious, toe-tapping tunes, as well as an exquisite story line. Major characters need mechanical headpieces which allow additional animal-like movements whilst still permitting the actor to perform. That is how Disney averted creating a musical stuffed with the park-inspired luxurious costumes. The look of each animal onstage is rather African in design, further increasing the authentic experience of the musical. The battle sequences are fought through a carefully choreographed dance, and the wildebeest stampede brings together a lot of points of theatre that it needs to be looked at to be understood. There's times when producers try and transfer a fantastic film to the stage, or vice versa, and fall short of creating a performance that may be equally as fulfilling. The Lion King without doubt does not fall into that grouping. This stage performance has earned the numerous awards it has received over the years.
