By: Caron Kristan

For many years now France has been at the top of many Brits'' lists come summertime. We all have a destination somewhere that we never tire of revisiting - a favourite hotel, a couple of familiar restaurants, guaranteed good weather - and many of them happen to be in France.

France is now home to many British expatriates who have chosen to turn it into their permanent abode, let alone a holiday destination.

Let''s take a quick look at a few of its best loved hotspots for British tourists:

1. Nice is well known for its breathtaking beaches. It is equally popular with partygoers in their early twenties as it is with sun seekers in their late seventies. Nice hotels are also some of the best in the country. Art buffs should book into the Hotel Windsor, where each room was decorated by a different artist.

2. Cahors, not too far from Toulouse, is a delightful countryside town. If you are looking for the perfect compromise between the city and the country this is it. Cahors is well enough connected to be an easily accessible holiday destination but has preserved its paysan charm impeccably. Producer of some of France''s most delicious wines, set amid some of the most beautiful French pastoral views and blessed with some of its best weather, it is no wonder Cahors has endeared itself to many an British wanderer.

3. Strasbourg is a new experience of France altogether. A true blend of French and German cultures, Strasbourg is a lively and vibrant student city, with a range of cultural attractions and a lot of beautiful architecture. Don''t miss out on the fairytale old town, La Petite France. Strasbourg''s biggest attraction, though, is undoubtedly its eclectic, European ambience and its highly addictive energy.

4. Old roman relic, Aix en Provence, is the perfect blend of old and new, mixing the cutting edge of modern art and culture with a rich and fascinating cultural heritage. The city is most vibrant during festival time, so check the city website for further details.

5. It would be impossible to compile a list of French hotspots without mentioning its captivating capital city. Paris is a wonderful place for a quick weekend break or a long summer stay. It lends itself well to both those who wish to rush around on the metro to soak up as much culture as possible whilst making the most of the city''s buzzing night scene, and those who simply wish to wander its many attractive streets, stop off and enjoy a coffee and a pastry at a few French caf?s, sit back by the Seine sipping a nice glass of red and use the city as a place to relax and unwind.
