Torremolinos, Tapas and Travel: Where to go in Spain

By: Caron Kristan

There is no denying that the Brits love Spain. Every year, when the summer holidays arrive, we flock en masse in search of sunnier climbs and cheaper beer. Luckily, Spain provides both, frequently in copious and almost overwhelming amounts. Luckily, also, it is a large enough country to house us all for the summer and provide a great deal of diversity to keep us coming back for more.

Whether you fancy a summer trip to Spain or you simply want to hear about the best of the Spanish holiday destinations, read on to find out more about what''s hot in Spain this summer:

Barcelona, the Catalan capital of the south east, is one of the most versatile holiday destinations in Europe. It provides culture by the bucket full in the form of art, architecture, history and music. Fabulous seafood dishes are available in abundance. The beach is spectacular. The night life is legendary. Barcelona is somewhere everyone has to go at least once in a lifetime.

If live music is your passion and you love a good festival, give up Glastonbury, reject Reading, forget about the Fringe and head to Benecassim festival. This enormous modern music event takes place in Spain, somewhere in between Barcelona and Valencia, each July, and attracts hundreds and thousands of live music enthusiasts, dancing, drinking and camping in the heart of the beautiful Spanish countryside.

Malaga is famous for its popularity with young travellers and lively hub, Torremolinos, is one of the best areas to stay. The nightlife is unbeatable with the parties continuing well into the night and often into the next day. Recline on the beach with a fresh mango juice and a pair of dark glasses to recover.

There''s something about capital cities that gives them an edge that other towns and urban areas simply just cannot recreate. Madrid is a prime example of this. Though it may not be as big as London or Moscow, Madrid boasts an infectious vibe that gives the city a delightful air of opportunity and possibility. Culture, fine dining, great weather and fabulous shopping are all readily available in Madrid.

Rioja is a wine lovers dream. This fertile and rural region of Spain hosts many wine tasting tours throughout the year, offering an educational and delicious experience. Sip your way through an array of grape varieties, learn which wine to drink with your favourite tapas dish and meet a selection of likeminded wine lovers as you go.

Whatever your holiday priorities may be, Spain is sure to have something fabulous to offer you this summer. Check out Octopus Travel and Sky Scanner websites for further information on the best deals around.
