If you are planning a romantic holiday or honeymoon, then you should seriously consider heading over to Dubrovnik in Croatia. Dubrovnik is one of the most romantic places in the world, with lovely scenery, dramatic sunsets, and plenty of old fashioned buildings. Here are some of the best places to visit while you are there. If you fancy a walk, you should head over to the outer rampart walls, which are there to protect the harbour. If you walk smartly, you can do it in under an hour, but on a hot day it is better to take it easy. There are fortresses on the route that offer stunning views of the Adriatic as well as some much needed refreshments. Of all the museums in Dubrovnik, the maritime museum is probably the most interesting, with a number of fascinating nautical exhibits. The art gallery is also well worth a visit, as it features some amazing Italian renaissance works as well as works by local artists. While you are in Dubrovnik, you should try and hop on a boat to some of the neighbouring islands. If you are lucky, you will get a complementary fresh fish picnic with wine into the bargain. The island of Lokrum is the closest to the city and is known as the island of Love. There is a swimming lake, and many rocky enclaves where you can sunbathe or go exploring. In the middle of the island, there is a fortress surrounded by stunning Roman gardens, and a church, which is a popular location for weddings and celebrations. The Elafiti islands of Sipan, Lopud, and Kolocep are also well worth a visit. If you take a day trip out to these islands, you can explore the church tower on Sipan, go for a dip on Lopud, and walk the pier at Kolocep. Nature lovers should head out to the island of Mljet, which is a nature reserve full of protected species of plant life and wildlife. If you take a walk up one of the hills, you can get a terrific view, and budding explorers can head over to the Benedictine Monastery in the centre of the island. Remember, if you are flying out to Dubrovnik, then you will have to organize an airport transfer as well. This can be expensive if you leave it until the last minute, but if you book in advance with a firm such as Easybus, you can save a lot of money and time on the day.
