With thousands of tourists visiting every year, Warsaw is currently one of the hottest holiday destinations in Europe. If you are thinking of heading there for a break, you should try and check out some of the following attractions. Despite taking fairly heavy bombardment during World War II, the Old Town in Warsaw remains a beautiful place to visit, thanks in no small part to the exhaustive restoration efforts that took place after the war. Here you will find stunning architecture, charming cafes and bars and some top restaurants. The massive neo Gothic structure that is St. Johns Cathedral was built in the fifteenth century, and contains many superb examples of religious art, and some intricately carved stone tombs that simply defy description. The Market Square in the Old Town is an architectural marvel, with traditional food stalls and cafes galore. And if you have ever fancied travelling by horse and carriage, you can do that here during the summer months. The Royal Castle, near the old town, is a jaw dropping fourteenth century castle in the Baroque style. Once the home of the Polish royal family, it is now a museum full of historical furniture and beautiful works of Renaissance art. The Citadel and Citadel Museum were built back in the 18th century. Originally a military fortress, it was converted into a jail in the 19th century and is now a museum. The building itself is impressive and intimidating in equal measure, and the museum contains historic exhibits charting the development of modern Poland from the 1700s onwards. The Warsaw Uprising Memorial is a statue that was built in honour of the brave men and women who fought the German occupation during the Second World War. It depicts men clambering into the sewers and defending a barricade. If you are heading to Warsaw by air, then remember to organize transport to and from the airport while you are at it, as it can be something of an expensive hassle if you leave it to the last minute. At the moment, Easybus are offering some stunning deals on airport transfers if you book sufficiently in advance.
