The last few years have dealt several heavy blows to the fashion industry. Since 2000, high-quality imitations and fakes have blighted designers across the globe causing them to increase prices or move into other retail areas such as cosmetics and accessories. Just when it seemed as if the major fashion houses had finally got their copycats under control, the recession meant money for luxury and high-end fashion was in short supply.

The high street on the other hand, being more in tune with the everyday wants and needs of consumers, has responded more rapidly to the economic situation.
