Which mobile phone deal is right for you

By: Porter Ivrin

There are 2 main options when it comes to choosing between mobile phone deals. One option is the pay monthly contract deal, and the other is the pay as you go deal where you top up your mobile with credit whenever you want.

Pas as you go mobile phone deals offer you a good deal more freedom in that you are not tied to a contract and are not tied to any one mobile service provider. You are also free from monthly fees and can cease using your mobile phone whenever you want to.

Pay as you go deals are perfect for mobile users under the age of eighteen, as younger users cannot obtain pay monthly mobile phone contracts. If you do not plan on using your mobile phone a great deal then pay as you go is the most suitable option for you as there is no point in paying a monthly fee for a mobile service that you do not use regularly.

A particularly important positive for those on pay as you go mobile phone deals is that users are not tied to one mobile company and can switch when they like. However, if your pay as you go deal came with a mobile phone you may find that you will need to pay a small one off fee to amend your phone so that it will work with other mobile company SIM cards.

If you choose a pay as you go deal, you will probably have to pay full price for your handset. However, if you do not particularly need or want the extra features of a high end mobile phone, you can pick up a basic handset for as little as ten pounds.

Calls and texts tend to be a lot more expensive if you are on a pay as you go deal, and you may be required to top up a certain amount each month in order to qualify for any discount deals such as free calls or text bundles.

Those on pay monthly mobile phone contracts will often receive a complimentary new mobile phone from their provider, or a large discount off of the price of the latest top of the range mobile models. Free texts and calls are usually included in contract mobile phone deals too.

Pay monthly contracts typically have a contract length of between twelve and twenty four months. You cannot break this contract without paying a substantial fee, which is usually roughly equal to what you would pay for the remainder of the contract anyway.
