If this is the case, then use the opportunity to buy a fancy dress in a luxurious, sensuous winter fabric, like velvet. If you want to make a purchase that will endure for years to come without looking dated, but you still want to be on-trend this season, then go for a classic cut and shape, but choose a colour such as burnt umber or burgundy red, particularly popular shades this season. Before embarking on a big seasonal shopping trip, always check out what you already have in your wardrobe. If you like to hoard your old clothes, you're bound to find that some of them will come back into fashion over the years. However, the high street is chock full of affordable winter dresses and some excellent catwalk copies, so dressing as if you're straight off the runway shouldn't be a challenge this season.
